Marine Pipeline Installation Method
A staged marine pipeline installation concept designed to simplify the construction and offshore deployment of large-diameter deep sea water intake pipelines.
The Challenge of Offshore Pipeline Installation
Large marine intake pipelines are difficult to transport, assemble, tow, position, and submerge safely.
As pipeline diameter and total length increase, construction vessels, offshore lifting operations, and installation control become increasingly complex.
Staged Assembly and Sea Delivery
This concept considers a construction process in which pipeline sections are joined on the land side and progressively delivered into the sea.
The assembled pipeline may then be towed and positioned along a planned route before controlled submergence and final installation.
Reducing Offshore Construction Complexity
The objective is to shift as much assembly work as possible toward controlled land-side operations.
By reducing the amount of joining and heavy handling required offshore, the installation process may become easier to manage, inspect, and scale for large deep sea water intake systems.
