Salt Production
Salt recovery may be considered as a downstream use of concentrated saline streams generated within a broader deep sea water utilization system.
Considering Concentrated Saline Streams as a Resource
Industrial water treatment and desalination processes may produce concentrated saline streams.
Rather than treating these streams only as waste, the project considers the possibility of recovering salt and exploring related industrial uses where technically and economically appropriate.
Integration with Desalination and Water Utilization
Salt production is considered in connection with desalination and other downstream processes supported by shared deep sea water infrastructure.
The objective is to examine whether materials remaining after one process may become useful inputs for another.
Expanding the Value of Shared Infrastructure
The wider project explores how a single large-scale intake system may support multiple industries in sequence.
Salt recovery is therefore considered as one possible future extension of the Deep Sea Water Utilization Project.
